What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is the application of a fine colored dry powder through an electrically charged gun. The powder is made of formulations like TGIC-Polyester, Epoxy, Acrylics and the list goes on. The powder has the consistency of flour or baby powder. During the application process the powder passes through the gun and becomes positively charged. The clean bare metal part being coated is grounded, resulting in the powder becoming attracted to the part. Once the part is completely coated with powder, it is placed in a curing oven at a specific temperature for a specific amount of time depending on the powder type being used. Once the part reaches a certain temperature it begins to melt or "flow out" becoming adhered to the part. After curing the part is set to cool to room temperature and can then be handled. Most wet paint applications require an extended amount of curing time before they can be handled.

No waxing or buffing needed, a little soap and water with a clean towel will leave you with a finish that will last for years to come.
